There were several times where I needed to crawl into a tight, enclosed space and the game wouldn’t let me. Unfortunately, the genius mechanics which give the bulk of the mayhem, is also what holds this game back. It is full to the brim with those moments and that couldn’t make me any happier.Īs much as I absolutely love this game, there are some drawbacks which may turn away potential players. However if you enjoy slapstick, putting a toaster in a microwave to set off the fire alarm kind of humor, then you must play this game. Be warned though if you are one for strong dialog jokes, then you might not enjoy the humor that much. From the moment you hear the theme song on the title screen, you know you are in for a good time. There are a lot of things to see and do in each place you visit, which demand your attention and natural curiosity.
You will rarely get lost and not know where to go, even if you explore the world around you. The level designs are simple but they work. I’ve never had so much fun trying to climb up a ladder in any game. It’s downright hilarious when you are only wanting to make your morning coffee and your tentacles are flapping everywhere, breaking expensive china, much to the dismay of your wife. Often, you will cause destruction and mayhem by just trying to find your tie or pour a glass of milk and that’s ok. The fun arrives when you realize that the mechanics are purposefully hard and challenging, making even walking out a door a somewhat complicated event. However, you also get to do some outings like take your kids to a museum or attend a wedding. For most of the game, you find yourself doing traditionally mundane tasks like mowing the yard, going grocery shopping, or my personal favorite, grilling hamburgers. You have a wife and a couple of children who don’t suspect a thing. The whole premise behind Octodad: Dadliest Catch is that you are an octopus which lives in secret as a human.
